Hawes Water Lake

The lake at the end of our private boardwalk is truly stunning. Spring-fed through the limestone bedrock it is highly alkaline and crystal-clear, supporting a wide range of fauna and flora including rare butterflies, moths and dragonflies. Marsh harriers visit and breed in the reedbeds, swallows and martins feed over the lake in summer and the inimitable water rails are often heard if not seen.

Boating

Please note that no boats or watercraft of any description are allowed on the lake. This includes inflatables, canoes, wakeboards and paddleboards.

Swimming

Guests are permitted to swim from the jetty (swim ladder provided). The water is 12ft deep off the jetty so children should be supervised at all times.

Fishing

Guests may fish during the coarse fishing season (June 16th - March 16th). Please note however that the cottage is not suited for 'fishing holidays' - our immediate neighbours have their own jetties and lake access, so to ensure a degree of privacy for all, we ask that fishing is restricted to occasional hours here and there, not all day every day!  Please ask for our fishing leaflet if you plan to fish.

Peace and tranquility

Hawes Water is a SSSI and Nature Reserve. In this spirit and to respect our neighbours' enjoyment of the lake please avoid noisy or raucous behaviour at all times. Strictly no radios / music on devices other than with earphones.
